A brief introduction to the itinerary

The Madrid Segway Tour 60 is the perfect route for all those who want to experience a Segway touristic tour without taking any risk. Its route, its competitive price and its 60 minutes duration makes it the perfect tour for beginners and those who don´t have a lot of time to spend.

The Segway is an activity that combines skills and exercise. It is not necessary to be in good shape, since the machine does all the work. However you have to keep in mind that it is an outdoor activity that might be a little exhausting for some people. That´s the reason the 60-minute tour may be the perfect choice for those who do not want to give up the fun of a Segway Tour.

The tour starts in Plaza de España, a large square with gardens in the middle of the Gran via Street. From this centric and enormous meeting point we take you to the first historical landmark in the route, El Teatro Real, one of the most important opera houses in Spain. Built by Fernando VII, El Teatro Real has suffered several fires during his long history, but it has remained as the main cultural space for theater, opera and classic music in the city of Madrid. It has hosted all kind of major operas and musical concerts, from Vienna Philharmonic recitals to the Eurovision Festival.

The route continues until we reach Plaza de la Villa, the historic center of Madrid. The square is made up of three buildings, la Torre de los Lujanes, la Casa Palacio de Cisneros and la Casa de la Villa. It was one of the main areas of the medieval Madrid since it was at the same distance from the Guadalajara Gate and the La Vega Gate, the two main accesses to the city. In its architecture and details we can understand why it was a hub during the economic and demographic development of the city.

The Madrid Segway Tour continues until we reach La Catedral de La Almudena, one of the main religious temples of the Spanish capital. There used to be a small parish in the same spot that was transformed in 1883 in what later would become the Madrid cathedral. La Almudena has had a close relationship with the religious events of the Spanish royal family. It was the place where King Felipe VI and Letizia Ortiz got married in 2004, as well as being the usual place where state funerals are held.

The route continues until reaching El Palacio Real, one of the largest royal palaces in the world. Long before Madrid was capital of Spain, the emir Mohamed I built in Magerit (Arab name of the city) an Alcazaba (fortress) to defend Toledo of the advance of the Christians. In the 14th century the building was transformed into a bigger fortification known as the Old Alcazar. Carlos I and his son Felipe II converted the fortress into the permanent residence of the monarchs. But in the year 1734 a fire destroyed it so Felipe V commanded to build a palace in the exact same spot.

The tour then arrives at one of the most exotic points of the route: El Templo de Debod. The Temple of Debod was inaugurated on July 20, 1972 after two years of reconstruction. The temple, originally from ancient Egypt and 2,200 years old, was a gift from Egypt to Spain for its collaboration in the rescue of the temples of Nubia. In the interior there is a lot of information of the Egyptian mythology, society and hieroglyphics. From the temple we will return to the starting point near Plaza de España.

The Madrid Segway Tour 60 is a turistic route that only takes 60 minutes, the perfect amount of time to get an accurate idea of Madrid’s most interesting places at a glance. The advantage of knowing its location is that afterwards you can return to see them calmly, knowing all that is worth to know. In 60 minutes you can see the main landmarks and dedicate the rest of your day to leisure. This is the perfect choice for those who want to know the history of Madrid without having to spend an excessive amount of time.

If you’ve never used a segway, the Madrid Segway Tour 60 may be the perfect route for you. Although segways are easy to control and there is a previous tutorial session where you will learn to use it, this tour can be the test to find out what a segway tour it´s like. If you are not sure if segway tours are your thing, this short and concentrated turistic tour will help you make up your mind.

The tourist routes sometimes have high prices and they show you monuments that maybe are not that interesting. The price of the Madrid Segway Tour is very competitive, given that in the same activity there is tourism, fun and exercise. The Segway Tour is the best way to get an idea of the most important points of Madrid in a fun and cheap way.
