" What a great way to see many wonderful sites in Madrid! We covered so much ground on our 2 hour tour with the excellent guide Miguel. He was patient and a great instructor on how to ride these machines (it’s all in the feet). We’re so glad we did this and have lots of fun memories! Highly recommend!"
What is the Tapas Segway tour about ?

The Gastronomic Segway Tour is the perfect route for all those “foodies” who like not only visiting a city but also tasting its unique flavor. Take your Segway and roll with us to visit the historic districts of Madrid and its main landmarks, plus enjoying the typical food of the city in its unique taverns and restaurants.
The tour begins in La Plaza de España, one of the most centric squares in the capital. From there we move to the Teatro Real. Inaugurated in 1850, it is considered a great Madrid historical and cultural legacy, since it has hosted some of the most representative operas, plays and zarzuelas of all time. The next stop of the Madrid Segway Tour is the Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales, a Renaissance monastery that has more than 10,000 artistic works. Even nowadays the building is the residence of 19 cloistered nuns.

The route continues until arriving at Puerta Del Sol, the central spot of the country. That´s because in this square we find the 0 kilometer, the geographic center of Spain. The next interesting place of our route is the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, which houses an important museum with works of great artists such as Goya, Murillo or Zurbarán. The tour continues until we reach the Edificio Metropolis, a french-style building that welcomes us to La Castellana Street, where we find La Cibeles Fountain.

The first of the gastronomic stops is one of the emblematic Madrid taverns that still remain open after more than 100 years. Its menu offers a variety of products and typical Madrid dishes, while its great specialty are prawns with garlic and sweet wine, the combination that made them famous in the whole city. Their offer of prawns comes from the period after the Spanihs Civil War, when they started selling them for 160 pesetas. They reached the point of selling a record of 306 kg of prawns and the place was populated by politicians, actors or great writers of the time.

A brief introduction to the itinerary

The route continues until arriving at the Palacio de Telecomunicaciones, current seat of the town hall. It was initially the state postal service HQ, until in 2003 the town hall was moved there following the command of the mayor Alberto Ruíz-Gallardón. The Madrid Segway Tour next stop is the Monumento a los Caídos de España, located in the Plaza de la Lealtad (loyalty square). Rolling on our Segway we reach La fuente de Neptuno, another neoclassical style fountain representing the Greek god of the sea.

From there we will reach one of the most visited museums in the whole country, El Museo del Prado. This museum houses some of the most important works of art in the world made by artists such as Goya, Rembrandt, Durero, El Bosco, Fra Angelico and Rubens. La casa Museo de Lope de Vega is our next destination, the place of residence for over 25 years of the immortal poet and playwright Lope de Vega.

Our next gastronomic stop is in the heart of Madrid’s Letras district and, like the neighborhood, is a spot that maintains its personality and honesty. Its menu is an authentic festival of the “castiza” gastronomy of the capital of Spain: Callos (Cow Lungs), Snails “a la Madrileña”, Lamb Hands, Ox Tail Casserole, Veal Cheek and its Codfish “a la Madrileña”. The premises include a large lounge with room for 35 people, a cloakroom and a car park.

From there we continue the Gastronomic Segway Tour by reaching Plaza Santa Ana, a beautiful square of the classic neighborhood known for its bars, monuments and its Madrid scent. The next stop of the Tour is another remarkable square: La Plaza Mayor. Even today stands out for its Carlos II statue, its impressive facades and the arches that surround the whole square.

One of the last stops of the Madrid Segway Tour is La Plaza de la Villa, a square formed by buildings from the 15th century medieval Madrid. In front of the square we find La Catedral de la Almudena. This cathedral is an eclectic mix of architectural styles and it´s the largest temple in Madrid, being the only one in Spain that was consecrated by Pope John Paul II. And for the tour´s big finale we arrive to El Palacio Real, the official residence of the kings of Spain. This palace was built by the king Felipe V and the last king who resided there was Alfonso XIII, before the arrival of the Second Republic. It is considered a national treasure and it´s one of the largest royal palaces in the world.

The last restaurant of the Gastronomic Segway Tour differs slightly from the previous ones. On one side it maintains the Madrid traditional food, that goes from the fish and the seafood to the traditional dishes of “Casquería” (Offal). However, their offer has a more innovative approach, open to other ways of cooking it like sushi, tataki or ceviche. It is characterized by always having a very fresh and good-quality fish, cooked at its point.

The Madrid Segway Tour takes you to the most representative historic landmarks of the capital of Spain. In Madrid we can find historic remains of all times and it is crucial to know where to look. A local guide is crucial to find this cultural treasures hidden among the many streets of the city.

Spain is the country of Europe that more fish consumes per year, and the taverns and restaurants of the capital play a fundamental role in it. In this route you will know some of the most emblematic and you will be able to taste the most typical dishes of the city, some of them with the same recipe of 100 years ago.

After a great and copious meal sometimes it can be dificult to keep walking at the same pace. That is where the Segway is going to get in handy, to the point that you will be very grateful of your choice. Nothing like continuing your route in a Segway while you start the process of digestion.
