The Madrid Segway Tour is an essential route for those who want to know the downtown area of the capital of Spain. Take your Segway and roll with us to visit the historic districts of Madrid and its main landmarks such as the Palacio Real, La Catedral de la Almudena and La Cibeles Fountain.

The tour begins in La Plaza de España, one of the most centric squares in the capital. The meeting point of Gran Via Street, Princesa Street and Ferraz Street, this square is crowned by a fountain, a famous building known as the “Edificio España” and the Cervantes monument. It is the perfect meeting point to start a route that will take us to know the essential landmarks of the classic Madrid.

From there we move to the Teatro Real. Inaugurated in 1850, it is considered a great Madrid historical and cultural legacy, since it has hosted some of the most representative operas, plays and zarzuelas of all time. The next stop of the Madrid Segway Tour is the Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales, a Renaissance monastery that has more than 10,000 artistic works. Even nowadays the building is the residence of 19 cloistered nuns.
The route continues until arriving at Puerta Del Sol, the central spot of the country. That´s because in this square we find the 0 kilometer, the geographic center of Spain. There is also the Casa de Correos, former seat of the town hall, which has the clock used every year to celebrate the New Year´s Eve. The next interesting place of our route is the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, which houses an important museum with works of great artists such as Goya, Murillo or Zurbarán.

The Madrid Segway Tour continues until we reach the Edificio Metropolis, a french-style building that welcomes us to La Castellana Street, where we find La Cibeles Fountain. This neoclassic monument represents the Greek goddess Cibeles, mother of the earth, and it´s famous not only for its great beauty but for being Real Madrid´s celebration point.

The route continues until arriving at the Palacio de Telecomunicaciones, current seat of the town hall. It was initially the state postal service HQ, until in 2003 the town hall was moved there following the command of the mayor Alberto Ruíz-Gallardón. The Madrid Segway Tour next stop is the Monumento a los Caídos de España, located in the Plaza de la Lealtad (loyalty square). This 5.6 meters obelisk is dedicated to the second of May uprising against French troops by the people of Madrid. It was inaugurated in 1836 and in its base you can read the phrase “Honor to the fallen for Spain”.

Rolling on our Segway we reach La fuente de Neptuno, another neoclassical style fountain representing the Greek god of the sea. The landmark is also a meeting point for football fans, in this case from the Atlético de Madrid, the other team of the city. From there we will reach one of the most visited museums in the whole country, El Museo del Prado. This museum houses some of the most important works of art in the world made by artists such as Goya, Rembrandt, Durero, El Bosco, Fra Angelico and Rubens. And of course you can´t leave El Prado without contemplating the greatest work of one of the best painters in the history of mankind, “Las Meninas” de Velázquez.

La casa Museo de Lope de Vega is our next destination, the place of residence for over 25 years of the immortal poet and playwright Lope de Vega. From there we reach Plaza Santa Ana, a beautiful square of the classic neighborhood known for its bars, monuments and its Madrid scent. The next stop of the Tour is another remarkable square: La Plaza Mayor. Even today stands out for its Carlos II statue, its impressive facades and the arches that surround the whole square.

One of the last stops of the Madrid Segway Tour is La Plaza de la Villa, a square formed by buildings from the 15th century medieval Madrid. In front of the square we find La Catedral de la Almudena. This cathedral is an eclectic mix of architectural styles and it´s the largest temple in Madrid, being the only one in Spain that was consecrated by Pope John Paul II. And for the tour´s big finale we arrive to El Palacio Real, the official residence of the kings of Spain. This palace was built by the king Felipe V and the last king who resided there was Alfonso XIII, before the arrival of the Second Republic. It is considered a national treasure and it´s one of the largest royal palaces in the world. The perfect end to the Madrid Segway Tour.
