Rooftop bars to not miss in Madrid

When it comes to rooftops there is no doubt that Madrid has some of the best, we could even say some of the best in the world. Whether you’re looking to wine and dine, celebrate with cocktails and music or enjoy some bubbly in the pool, we’ve narrowed down our favorite picks when it comes to open-air ambiances with great panoramic city views. Hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

360° Terrace and Sky Bar

The 360º is without a doubt one of the best rooftop terraces for a drink in Madrid. In the heart of the Spanish capital, the Riu hotel bar is an emblematic place in the Plaza de España. Walk around the terrace and enjoy the 360 degree view of the city. From the 27th floor of the Riu hotel, admire the rooftops of the capital, the large Casa de Campo park and its lake, as well as the mountains in the distance. What could be better while sipping your mojito?

And for the more adventurous, venture onto the glass walkway and gaze down at the ground rising 117 meters below you. This is enough to give you chills! Note that to access the roof terrace, you must pay the entrance fee, which is €5. The view is definitely worth the experience.

Ginkgo Restaurant & Skybar

This amazing restaurant and Skybar is located atop the VP Plaza España Design Hotel right off of Gran Vía. It’s an amazing choice you will not be disappointed with. The exterior has amazing views of the city including the Royal Palace, you can also see the RIU Hotel from here. There are lounges to relax in and enjoy cocktails and appetizers while spending a nice afternoon or evening in good company. There’s also an amazing set of wings that you can take pictures in front of, making the experience even more memorable.

The restaurant area is pretty trendy and luxurious, with its Japanese inspired decor which is mixed with a vintage vibe. The black marble bar is absolutely breathtaking and let’s not get started on the mirrored ceilings. The panoramic windows are enough to make you feel outside indoors which is perfect for cold weather. The menu is a mix of Asian influence and Mediterranean food that is very tasty and their crafty signature cocktails are simply delightful. There are nights where they set up live jazz but if the jazz is not available they have a DJ that creates a lively atmosphere.

Azotea del Círculo de Bellas Artes

The Azotea del Círculo has one of the best panoramic views of the city. It is on the top level of the Círculo de Bellas Artes cultural center and boasts some of the best art exhibitions in Madrid. From the rooftop you have views of the iconic Metropolis building which is on the intersection where Calle de Alcalá ends and Gran Vía begins. Perhaps the best views of the city are to be seen here.

There is a restaurant, two bars and super comfortable lounge areas that simulate beds. There are also high tables and chairs with front row views near the rooftop balcony.

It can get very busy due to its popularity so get there early or be sure to make a reservation beforehand. There is usually a small fee of about 4-5 euros to have access to the rooftop, but it is so worth it. You can catch one of the best sunsets from here, so be sure not to miss out.

Mercado de San Antón

This rooftop located in the vibrant neighborhood of Chueca is amongst our favorites when it comes to the rooftop bars that are located in markets. It is on the highest level of this amazing market place which has fresh produce on one floor and you can order an amazing variety of tapas from around the world, including wines and cocktails on another floor. Here you can purchase gourmet treats like truffle honey that will make any dish a feast.

The name of this rooftop is La Cocina de San Antón and the ambiance and service here will make you feel right at home! You can enjoy various items from their delicious menu, as well as beers, wines and non-alcoholic cocktails that are very tasty. They have a colorful piggy inspired décor that may have you waiting in line to take pictures in front of the structures. There’s an outdoor terrace with lounge chairs as well as hi tables and there is also a covered terrace just in case it rains. Besides this they have the regular restaurant area and lounge. Such an all-round great place to spend some time in!

Terraza de Cibeles

With views of the magnificent roundabout of Plaza de Cibeles, Terraza Cibeles is located on the 6th floor of the gorgeous Palacio de Cibeles. The Palacio is home to art exhibitions as well as a tourist information spot. It is also home to one of the city’s main post offices. Its extremely high ceilings and huge rooms will have you in awe and wondering what all happened here in the past. The decadence and opulence are right on sight, just a spectacular location.

The Terraza Cibeles is on its own another amazing spot! It has an energy like no other, where you can enjoy cocktails, wine or cava while listening to the latest hits. It has various options to choose from like the more private lounge area, the area in front of the bar and also the high tables that give you beautiful views and are perfect for taking pictures with a great background. There is usually a small fee to get access but with this you get to choose a drink after you’re in.

They have a variety of beers as well as cocktails and wines to choose from. And you can order amazing tapas like the Pulpo a la Brasa or the Matrimonio.
