The TOP things to do in Madrid in 2021

This past year our lives have been transformed beyond recognition due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. We have had to confine and limit our daily routines in order to protect ourselves and others.That’s why, amid this global emergency, we’re still trying to see the brighter side and looking forward to a 2021 that could be a little closer to the life we had before.

Though plans can obviously change, as they did in 2020, here are what we consider to be the TOP things to do in Madrid for the upcoming year. All are still going ahead at the time of writing. Hope you enjoy it!

#1 Madrid Fusion

31st May – 2nd June 2021

If you’re a foodie or a wine connoisseur, Madrid Fusion is definitely the event you want to head to. It’s perfect for lovers of gastronomy, with a large variety of exhibitors from different locations worldwide. It will definitely be a delicious experience for all attendees.

Each edition is themed, making it a delightful and diverse event. There’s food and wine tastings, cocktail master classes, shopping markets, workshops, talks, and more.

After 18 years, this gastronomic congress has turned into one of the most influential in the world. In its various editions it has showcased some of the planet’s most important chefs – across the continents. Madrid Fusion is organized by the gastronomic division of Vocento, a well-known communications group that is at the top of the market in Spain.

#2 ARCO Madrid

Jan – July 2021

Art lovers unite to enjoy this amazing fair that takes place once a year in Madrid. ARCO is by far one of the top events worldwide for art fans to attend. The show has been around for 39 editions and it just keeps on growing and growing.

This upcoming edition for 2021 will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the art fair and will include a special section showcasing a selection of galleries that have participated in ARCO since the beginning. There will be exhibitions by renowned galleries, new and emerging galleries and artists, a forum for debates, a library, a gourmet food area and the list goes on.

ARCO was born as an art fair for galleries with plans to reunite artistic offerings at the vanguard of emerging arts, including modern and contemporary art. The first edition was held in February 1982 and presented 264 artists from 14 countries, who concentrated in Madrid for a week. Since then, ARCO has become the epicenter of, and main platform for, European and Latin American art.

#3 Banksy: the street is a canvas.

Dec 3rd 2020 – May 9th 2021

Banksy is a mythical figure whose real identity is still unknown but this exhibit will bring us closer to the famous but anonymous British graffiti artist who is well-known for his satirical street art.

He uses dark humor through graffiti and his artwork covers universal topics that run the range across politics, culture and ethics. Banksy communicates in a way that is direct, challenging the system and its rules. He speaks with no filter, through art which aims to inform and inspire and also amuse.

So, starting December 3rd , 2020 until May 9th, 2021 in Madrid’s Círculo de Bellas Artes the exhibition will take place and showcase art by Banksy from private international collectors. More than 50 creations will be exhibited and many of them will be displayed in Madrid for the first time ever.

#4 MAD Cool Festival

7th – 10th July 2021

The most popular music festival in Madrid! MAD Cool is held annually and began in 2016, it hosts a variety of music genres from pop, rock to indie. The headliners are some of the most popular acts in the world. The 2021 edition of the festival will celebrate the show’s 5th anniversary and is set to include artists like Cardi B, 21 Pilots, Kings of Leon, The Killers, Deftones, Red Hot Chili Peppers and more.

Since its beginnings Mad Cool festival has united art, fashion, gastronomy and tourism into one complete package. It’s essentially the Spanish version of Coachella.

The event in 2020 was postponed due to the pandemic and is now set to take place from the 7th to the 10th of July, 2021. And guess what? We wouldn’t miss it for the world.

#5 Madrid Puro Reggaeton Festival

June 21st 2021

The Madrid Puro Reggaeton Festival will take place for the first time on June 21st and we’re excited about it! In the last few years Reggaeton’s popularity has grown to record heights, making it one of the most popular music genres in the world. This soaring popularity has influenced artists all over the globe to get involved in the movement. Artists like Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa, Diplo, DJ Snake, Marc Anthony, among many others have all had their share of the genre.

This is why we’re very excited for this event to take place. World renowned artists Daddy Yankee, Bad Bunny, Natti Natasha – to name but a few – will headline the festival. We’ll be there at the front row enjoying it all. Don’t miss out!
